CEMCAN (CEramic Matrix Composites ANalyzer) was developed to analyze fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composites. It incorporates micromechanics,
macromechanics and laminate theories to allow a comprehensive point analysis of composite behavior.
CEMCAN uses a novel fiber sub-structuring technique that allows for more accurate micro-mechanical representation of interfacial conditions, and at the same time
provides a higher degree of detail of microstresses at a very high computational efficiency. One can evaluate the effects of interfacial conditions, fiber/matrix breakage,
fabrication parameters, degradation of material performance due to environment, etc. at a laminate level.
CEMCAN also provides stress/strain relations up to failure
accounting for redistribution of stresses as matrices in these composites are brittle and start cracking at relatively low stress levels. Such a comprehensive capability from
constituent to the laminate level does not exist in another code for brittle matrix composites.
CEMCAN carries the NASA case number LEW-16327. It was originally released as part of the COSMIC collection.
